Dropbox Files Taking Up Space On Mac

Both Smart Sync and Selective Sync can help you save space. Selective Sync is an older feature that allows you to choose files and folders to sync with Dropbox. Synced files take up hard drive space, and everything you don’t sync can’t be seen or opened on your computer. With Smart Sync, you can choose to make files 'online only'. Online-only files take up a small amount of space on your hard drive because the placeholder requires space to store the file name and the shortcut to dropbox.com, but it takes up much less space than the file itself would. Note: On Mac, online-only files may appear to take up the full amount of space. Find and click the Dropbox icon in your notification area. It looks like a tiny box next to the battery, wi-fi, and sound icons on your desktop. Clicking will open a pop-up window. On Windows, your notification area is located in the lower-right corner of your taskbar at the bottom of your screen. I thought my Dropbox files were 'in the cloud,' but it turns out they were on my hard drive AND in the cloud. If you're short of hard drive space, here's how. Ok so this is the situation - I have Uploaded 3 main files to Dropbox (2 as backups of my photos and video's) and one which is the main file i work out of. I have selected selective sync on the Photo and video files (about 500GB together) and they have been removed from the dropbox file as expected. The problem is that they still are taking up.

Hello everyone and please who ever can help because I'm really lost here.

Are they invisible and if so how can i delete these to get my space back???

So anyone who might know the solution or can help to get it i would really appreciate it thank you. Getify deals.

Also i heard that it might be due to symlinked files or something like this but i dont even know what that is.
